How To Set Up a Wireless Router

Are you thinking about installing a wireless network in your home? If so, than what you're going to need is a wireless router! A home router has many advantages and is really very easy to set up. If you're looking for an easy way to connect the computers in your home and be able to use your computer from any room in the house, then a wireless home router is exactly what you need.

To setup a home network and along with it a wireless network, you're going to need to purchase a few items.  First, you're going to need to get a broadband internet connection. When you first begin setting  up your wireless router, you'll need to connect the WAN port it to your broadband modem.  This modem will be given to you by your internet provider.  Next connect one of you computers to the one of the LAN ports on your home wireless router.  For the initial setup of you router you will need to connect using a wire. You should have an ethernet wire or cable that cable with your home router if not most computer or hardware store sell them.

Once the home wireless router is connected it must be configured. Most modern home routers come with an intall disk to make it very easy to setup and configure.  Simply follow the insturctions and you should be up and running in no time.  If you completely frightened by this step or are not a tech whiz, you may want to call a professional to configure it. Configuring your home wireless router can be the hardest part of installing it. However once this is done you never have to mess with it again.

Now are almost ready to begin using your home wireless network.

Where to put the wireless router. For the best wireless coverage throughout your home, wireless router should be installed somewhere in the middle of your house.  This will ensure optimal wireless signal reaches to every part of your home.

If any of your computers does not have built-in wireless capabilities then you will will need to also install a wireless adapter.  The easiest to install is a usb adapter and can be used for both laptops or desktop computers. After you have connected your computer to the wireless network you can connect to the internet from anywhere in your house.

With all of your computers networked, you can now share files, music, movies as well as peripherals like printers or scanners. One final note about security.

In order to prevent unwanted access to your wireless home network you need to password protect it. This is done be enabling WPA2 or WEP on your router. These wireless protocols ensures a high level of security and prevents unwanted users from accessing your network.
