netgear x8 imageThe Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 wireless home router is currently on of the best and fastest wireless routers on the market for home and small office use. Featuring 8 separate radios, 4 for external and 4 for internal, that will provide up to 5.3 Gb/s of bandwidth making it one of the fastest home wireless router you can buy. Which is great news for home video streaming and live online game play fanatics.

For those with network attached storage or a home server that will support aggregation, the Nighthawk x8 has 2 of its 6 wired LAN ethernet ports that will aggregate those connections for up to 2 Gb/s of LAN bandwidth.

With support for up to 5.3Gb/s of bandwidth this is one of the fast home wireless routers you can buy!

This has two 5Ghz bands for speeds up to 2.4Gb/s each and one 2.4Ghz band for speeds up to 1Gb/s

All radios support 802.11 a/b/g/n for compatibility with any wireless device you may have in your home.

Netgear has also supports what's called Tri-Band WI-FI technology. It's a fancy way of saying this router has 3 paths to aggregate the data into one bundle from your laptop or other device. This is how they get those amazing speeds.  The downside is that most newer devices right now only support budding 2 channels.

Another feature with Tri-Band is the ability to split devices into their own channel. Wireless routers will typically match the speed of the slowest device that is connected over wireless.  The ends up slowing everyone down. Which sucks when you have a laptop or game console than can supports 802.11n, but will be throttled because of an older 802.11b device. With tri-band, a separate wireless radio band is assigned to different devices speeds.

There is also a feature called MU-MIMO (which stands for multi-user multiple input, multiple output). In a nutshell this enables the router to transmit and receive to multiple devices at the same time, instead of one at a time like typical traditional wireless home routers might do.

With these great features, this AC5300 wireless home router is definitely made to last well into the future.

All in all this a great wireless home router for any home network with high network needs.  If you have a lot of wireless devices that will be connecting to your home router (2o+ devices) or have extremely high wireless band width needs, then this beast could be for you.

For most homes however this is probably over kill.  You could save yourself about $150 and go with an AC2400 Dual band and be just as happy.
